These are great suggestions! I would also encourage guests to opt for alternative registries that maybe eco-friendly. For an example, check out http://www.aftertheweddingday.com Guests can register for experiences instead of for things (no gift wrap, no gift cards, and no gifts you aren't sure the couple will use). Just memories that will last a lifetime...

We're all for buying a used wedding dress! They’ve usually only been worn once and probably for only 5 hours! There are tons of sites that can connect you with local sellers so you can see the dress beforehand, try it on, and inspect it for any rips, stains, etc. With sites like eBay you’re taking a chance that it looks the same as in the picture and you probably have to pay shipping fees. If you don’t like the thought of buying used, these sites also have brand new dresses that are end-of-line or brides who ended up purchasing 2 dresses because they couldn’t make up their mind. And once you’re done with your dress you can sell it again to recoup 50% of your cost! Happy shopping ladies! Be sure to check out http://www.smartbrideboutique.ca.

Great list! I've also found that you can get some amazing deals if your search for used decorations online. Lots of brides end up with doubles of things like guest books and multiple vases from centerpieces, table runners and all kinds of stuff you can reuse in your own colours and theme. I've been using www.smartbrideboutique.com, but I'm sure if you have a craigslist or kijiji in your area, you can find stuff there too.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful article on planning an eco-friendly wedding. For those green brides looking for a convenient place to buy many of the items recommended here, they may wish to visit a unique "eco-wedding" boutique at http://green-wedding.net.

These are great tips. With eco friendly events becoming the norm I am sure more people will begin doing eco weddings.

Here's another idea - if you already have everything you need for the home, why not register for EXPERIENCES instead of for things? Check out http://www.aftertheweddingday.com My friend Joy used it for her wedding in June and they registered for things to do on their honeymoon, Spanish lessons that they wanted to take together, and a skydiving trip. The possibilities are endless!
